Yankee Doodle (Thehos Gendar)

There’s another shorter version on my facebook page. There are apparently various theories about the tune name. I don’t know what the deal is, but it’s a great tune. I remember well being freaked out in kindergarten when a counselor of some kind took us one by one into the other room and asked us to sing Yankee Doodle and play with blocks. I guess it was a diagnostic thing of some kind. It’s a bit of a red herring and you may find it hard to believe, but I’ve met two bilingual children in different decades who got a note home suggesting they may need to be put on ritalin because they didn’t know the English word “spatula.”

Doodle Jumping to 100k

This is just a video of me doodle jumping to 93k. My time was running out and I didn’t want to make the video into two parts so I had to die a little before I got to 100k.

What kind of temprement has a Labradoodle?

Have you owned or do you own a Labradoodle, as the name suggests it is a Labrador Poodle corss. and is a recognised breed.
Have they a nice temprement, are they gentle with kids,

It’s not a recognised breed, it’s a mutt bred by ignorant people who are out to make money.

I think, just from the cross, they would be very intelligent and very active. Maybe not as much as a Border Collie, but probably not far off.

Riddle me this Yankee Doodle?

Why does Yankee Doodle put a feather in his hat? And why does he call the two macaroni. I know that it rhythms with pony. So any other answers welcome. Please. Thank you.

Doodle is thought to mean "fool" or "Simpleton"

Macaroni wigs were popular in the 1770’s and became slang for foppishness.

"The implication of the verse was therefore probably that the Yankees were so unsophisticated that they thought simply sticking a feather in a cap would make them the height of fashion"

Gunlord

Should I enter this into the Turner Prize Exhibition ?

It’s my desk pad, and on it I have doodled…

A Ladybird, a flag, an eye pking through a rip in the paper, a guitar tuning peg section and two matchstick men throwing bombs at each other.

Let’s face it if an unmade bed can win it, I must be in with a shout! LOL

Do not forget the painting by a monkey or the one drawn by a three year old lol!!!
My daughter A Level Art student took me to a gallery last year and she raved about the wood hanging from the ceiling??? Oh and a beheaded doll in a case which was beheaded by the guillotine of Ann Marie Toinette!!!!!
Go for it nothing to loose call it: "Working Time" ha ha

Why did Canada all of a sudden decide to go along with not suspending Air Travel to Mexico?!?

I read on Twitter from the News that Air Canada was suspending travel to Mexico until June 2. A minute later it was updated saying that due to travel demands they are going to maintain all flights to Mexico?! Why would they do that?! Even if we believe that this flu is minor why wouldn’t we be very cautious about this and suspend travel for now until we see the numbers improve?

Probably because rather than listen to the over-hyped media they decided that common sense should prevail.

How is it that dog breeders think they can ask so much money for a mixed breed , like a golden doodle?

I would like to have one for a pet, but the breeders are asking $1600 – over $3000 That is an absolutely outrageous price for a dog.

When you breed a litter of pure bred dogs responsibly, people usually don’t make a profit, the breeder just tries to break even, and the puppies can cost from $1600-$3000. If you breed a goldendoodle in a responsible way (as in frequent vet visits, possible c-section, etc.) it will cost the same amount of money to produce a litter, even if they are not pure bred. A pure bred litter and a mixed bred litter will cost the same amount of money if they are both raised in the same way. The goldendoodle breed might still only be breaking even on the litters.

Why did the Labradoodle Breeding Project fail?

Labradoodles were originally created to be the "perfect service dog" but that is not obviously the case now. What happened?

They weren’t intended to be perfect service dogs but low-allergen guide dogs. Guide Dogs of Victoria were approached by a blind woman in Hawaii whose husband was very allergic to dogs. Because Hawaii is a rabies-free state, the dog could not easily come from the continental U.S., but had to come from a rabies-free country, such as Australia.

The first attempt was made with poodles, but they just couldn’t find what they needed. Next they tried breeding the most suitable poodle they could find with one of their own breeding labradors who was known to produce good working guides. The results were mixed. They were able to provide the required low-allergen guide but the success rate of the mixed breeding was not as good as what they had already been producing with pure labradors. Not all of the dogs were low-allergen either. When you mix two different breeds you do not get consistent results, even within the same litter. Those that were low-allergen also required special grooming.

So what happened?
1. inconsistent results–few were actually low-allergen producing.
2. far fewer labradoodle pups were suited for guide work than the labradors they were already breeding.
3. breeders of high quality poodles were largely unwilling to participate, lowering the over all quality of dogs available.
4. dogs produced required more grooming.
5. they were not easily recognized as guide dogs.

In short, they were never as good for the purpose as the purebred labradors they were already producing, except in the single area of occasionally being low-allergen producers. This is really only needed if someone in the household is allergic to dogs because members of the public don’t (or shouldn’t) come in contact with working dogs making an allergic reaction in public unlikely.

The breeding program has continued and the Australian version is becoming more consistent. However Guide Dogs Victoria has abandoned the project. Some service dog programs continue to use them, but very few.

ETA: @ Miss K
The gene pool was considered stable with F7 (7th generation). They are working toward becoming an actual breed rather than mutts. The problem is there are two types:
1. Those part of a planned breeding program now past its seventh generation
2. Back yard breeders looking for big bucks breeding whatever poodle and whatever lab are handy.

There is a considerable quality difference. The first will eventually become a unique breed. The second will always be mutts because they cannot breed true.

ETA: The original labradoodle was bred by Wally Conran of Guide Dogs Victoria in 1988 or 1989. He coined the term because puppy walkers (we call them puppy raisers in the U.S.) were unwilling to raise mongrels. By giving them a fancy name he gave the appearance of being some sort of exotic breed. It was a simple marketing ploy to get puppy raisers.
